What Can’t Go Down the Garbage Disposal?

While there are the obvious things we all know that can’t go down the garbage disposal, there are also things that could cause real damage that may not be so obvious.

We’re breaking down what is good to go and what shouldn’t go down the disposal.

Good to go:

  • Small amounts of food scraps that will easily break down or soft foods (cereal, ice cream, applesauce, yogurt)

  • Liquids (milk, juice, coffee)

  • Citrus peels

  • Dish Soap

  • Ice cubes

Do not put down the disposal:

  • Bones

  • Celery

  • Fruit or vegetable peels (except for citrus peels)

  • Grease

  • Coffee grounds

  • Egg shells

  • Meat

  • Rice

  • Oatmeal

5 Tips to Add Value to Your Home With Plumbing

Whether you’re considering selling your home soon or are just looking for ways to increase the value of your home, some simple plumbing upgrades can make a huge impact. Here are some ways that Freiner can help increase the value of your home.

● Upgrading your fixtures

○ One simple way to upgrade the look of your home is to upgrade your fixtures

from the original hardware. We source fixtures from our partners that can

completely change the look of your home. Elevating your space with

individually machined fixtures made of metal rather than mass produced on an

assembly line and made of plastic adds immediate appeal to your kitchen or

bath.

● Upgrading your water heater

○ An efficient and modern water heater can be a huge selling point for interested

buyers. Not only will it improve the efficiency of your system and reduce utility

bills, it often looks more aesthetically pleasing.

● Upgrading your heating system

○ Properly zoned and sized heating systems can make all the difference in your

home. If it’s been awhile since your heating system has been upgraded, you

may want to consider a consultation; sometimes an added bonus in this service

is the amount of space you can gain back when upgrading from older, clunkier

systems.

● Modernizing pipes

○ Pipes can make a difference in water quality and taste, therefore modernizing

them can be a huge upgrade in your home. Oftentimes the material used in

older homes is outdated; it’s a value-add upgrade to switch from older materials to

more modern materials.

● Additions (half bath, bathroom, laundry room)

○ Adding a half bath to your home can increase the value of your home by up to

10% , while adding a full bath can increase the value of your home up to 20%. If

you have the space, it’s an incredible way to augment your home’s value.

Toilet Check

Toilet leaks can be wasteful and expensive.  At least once per year, check your toilet for leaks by adding a small amount of food coloring to the tank, and then check the toilet bowl 30 minutes later.  If the color of the water in the bowl has changed, water is seeping through from the tank.  If you have found a leak, contact us to schedule service.

Faucets & Sinks Check

Even small drips can waste thousands of gallons of water, as much as 150 a day.  Be sure to check under sinks for moisture or small leaks, and always contact us to repair leaky faucets right away to avoid paying for wasted water.

Remove and clean your faucet aerators annually to ensure an even flow of water.

Make sure overflow holes on tubs and vanity sinks are clear and open to prevent water damage.

Contact us if you need assistance.

Water Heater Check

At least once per year, inspect the exterior of your water heater tank and piping system for any leaks of corrosion.  If you see a minor leak, contact us immediately before the repair or replacement costs skyrocket.

At least once every two years, contact Freiner Company to have your water heater inspected by a trained service technician.  We will ensure your system is operating efficiently.
